An office party – employees making small talk while waiting for their boss. He appears and heightens the emptiness of the conversations in an egocentric speech which ends in a nosebleed. The boisterous Victor deconstructs the speech into what appear to be fantasy words, but are in fact species of antelope. Intoxicated, Victor jumps out of the window and experiences a night of grotesque non-communication, until he finds himself once more at the office party. Dream, reality or faulty communication? The Neue Oper Wien presents the opera by Johannes Maria Staud and Durs Grünbein in a new staging by Dominique Mentha.
