Surrounded by wild nature, a magician, who wants to be immortal, imprisons children in a magical golden castle in the middle of a forest and makes them live a regular daily routine there. In the process, he idealises order and maintains it with his magic. Jorinde is a heroine who reflects on her secluded security. She becomes aware of her free will by doubting the magician's warnings about the dangers of the outside world and breaks out of the protected luxury prison. She meets Joringel, a strange intruder into her enchanted world, and together they build the utopia of a dangerless freedom.
