For this special day in the middle of the weekend Wien Modern has dedicated to experimental instruments, we have invited two projects which turn the church space into a new ‘Klangautomat’ (sound machine) and the church itself into an instrument. Timothy Didymus and Joshua Legallienne are two British artists who work with the potential of un-amplified acoustic sound.
For Wien Modern, they are preparing a room with instruments, musical machines and kinetic scupltures, which are related to specific historic, architectural and acoustic qualities of the building. Fabrizio Di Salvo and reConvert’s idea starts from the necessity to investigate space, to explore its properties and acoustic potential and use them as a starting point. The only thing used to make these properties heard are percussive impulses. The space itself becomes a body of resonance with all its materials and surfaces. This event lives in the space between a conventional concert and a sound art exhibition. The visitors are encouraged to explore St. Ruprecht before and after the performances and to explore the sound inventions and their relationships to the space around them. (Klaus Haidl)
