The festival theme ‘Stimmung’ creates a number of opportunities for Wien Modern to grant an insight into the wide field of experimental instrument making. Two of what are probably the most adventurous instrument makers of the city will be transporting their collected works into the Wiener Konzerthaus for the first time: Paul Skrepek and his machinist have been using selected materials from skips and junk yards to cultivate a radically sound-focused kind of upcycling.
Die Maschine (The Machine, sometimes lovingly called by a diminutive ‘Kasperlmaschine’ or fool’s machine) shares the mezzanine of the grand staircase with a bust of Beethoven, which is also quite old, but has been excluded from the instrument recycling process for conservational reasons.
You can see The Machine from the 30th October to the 8th November during opening times, you can hear it during the indicated performance times:
