Founded in 1971 in the then just nine-year-old Museum of the 20th Century (today Belvedere 21), the ensemble xx. jahrhundert, together with the Ensemble Kontrapunkte and the oenm, is today one of the ensembles for contemporary music in Austria that is most steeped in tradition. On its 50th anniversary, the Viennese ensemble combines a look into its past – with Alban Berg's Chamber Concerto it guested in St. Paul de Vence, at the Salzburg Festival and at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, among others –  with a perspective of the future.
