If you have witnessed a live performance of Friedrich Cerha’s monumental orchestral composition Spiegel (mirrors) in its complete context of all seven parts – in Graz in 1972, in Vienna in 1977, 1989, 2006, 2011 or in Salzburg in 1996 – then you know why after its lockdown-related cancellation in 2020, Wien Modern did everything in its power to put the elaborate performance back on the programme in 2021, the year of Cerha's 95th birthday.
