Composition and improvisation: comprovise presents, for what is the third time in 2021, two central practices of musical creation in equal respect and mutual appreciation. Spread over three concert evenings, countless concert parts put a focus on composition and improvisation as well as their hybrids. In 2021 the emphasis lies on music-makers who are at home in both places: improvisers who are also active as performers or composers. The musicians won’t be heard just as improvisers or performers: the composers among the improvisers will also perform a piece by their colleagues. Additional discursive elements such as presentations, panel discussions and interviews will reflect and deepen the many connections, interplay and mutual impact between composition and improvisation.
