Even though the renewed lockdown since the 22nd November 2021 makes it impossible to hold concerts with an audience present - the grand finale of Wien Modern will take place as announced on the 30th November 2021 at 19:30 in the Wiener Konzerthaus and will be broadcast live online via video stream (pay as you wish). In addition, the concert can be heard again on ORF Ö1 on the 16th December 2021 at 19:30. Beat Furrer's debut as conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra begins with Milica Djordjević's Quicksilver from 2016, followed (in a changed programme order) by Déserts, Edgar Varèse's reflection on the loneliness of man in the modern world. In keeping with the lockdown, the electronic interludes are passed directly from computer to computer, without taking a detour via the hall acoustics. Beat Furrer sets the two final points of the programme and thus of the festival in his personal signature: for the first time he personally conducts his new Tableaux I-IV for orchestra as well as his Violin Concerto. The soloist of the latter is Ilya Gringolts, again, like at the acclaimed premiere in Munich a year ago - "none among the great violinists [possesses] even close to the unconditional expressivity which Furrer's twenty-minute eruption absolutely implies." (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Reinhard Brembeck, 10/14/2020). After the concert, there will be an opportunity to talk to other concert-goers in the new chat room on wienmodern.at, online at least ...
