In the classical concert setting, An Evening with asks for an intimacy that is as foreign as it is familiar. Melodies and lyrics create a continuously changing mood and playful atmosphere in the space, while the ritual of song still resonates, mourns, calls for protest, tells stories, and reveals alternative futures. An Evening with explores the cultural impact of songs: From Sinatra-esque love songs to a group-led fantasy, from pop "hits" to Schubert and folk hymns, the evening is marked by a certain enchantment, thanks to which the song expands from something we think we can only sing to something we can be with in communion. What at first can only be understood as a series of songs, becomes in time an absurd-choreographic seduction. (Alex Franz Zehetbauer)
