Elisabeth Harnik and Richard Barrett first appeared together on stage in 2009 at the comprovise festival in Cologne, both as improvisers and composers. Shortly thereafter, Harnik met the Serbian harpist Milana Zarić through Barrett. Zarić and Barrett have been performing regularly as a duo since 2013, and since 2019, Zarić and Harnik have worked together in various formations. Their new trio, which will premiere at Wien Modern, combines the experience of the three artists in various contemporary music fields in a kind of unifying economy, in a compact and undogmatic way. In the space they want to artistically explore, between acoustic and electronic instruments, Zarić, Harnik and Barrett define the coordinates. The harp as an instrument, with its classical connotations, is rarely found in improvised music and forms a particularly fascinating axis with the keyboard and string instrument piano. Together with electronics, the musicians create a kind of meta-instrument and produce hybrid sound worlds together that find their final form in real time. The concert is part of the free music forum concert series, which Elisabeth Harnik has co-curated since 2022.
