In terms of form, Schönes Wetter in Gmunden consists, as the subtitle says, of "six public private performances for voices, performers, ensemble, light, video and – in the order of the six stations in the same room – a wandering audience". At each of the six stations, a piece lasting around seven minutes will be performed by the ensemble stationed there. The audience is led in groups of nine people from the first station on the stage to the sixth station in the centre of the hall, experiencing new detailed views step by step along the way. All six pieces are played in parallel; every ten minutes or so, when the audience has moved one space further, the next performance starts at each station.

In terms of content, Schönes Wetter in Gmunden is a kind of spatially unfurled 'explosion sketch' of the private catastrophe that changed the lives of Arnold Schönberg, his wife Mathilde and their environment in 1908: The young painter Richard Gerstl, with whom Schönberg takes painting lessons, is caught in flagrante delicto with Schönberg's wife Mathilde; she leaves Arnold and moves in with Richard; their mutual friends persuade her to return; Richard, excluded from the Schönberg circle, dramatically takes his own life by hanging himself and ramming a knife into his chest. Mathilde is distraught, Arnold tries to minimise the damage and does not always cut a very good figure. And he begins to compose in a completely different and much more experimental way.

There may be waiting times at individual stations stations due to the format. We recommend that you allow 60-80 minutes for the visit. The event is organised due to multiple changes between different floors unfortunately not barrier-free accessible.
