Navid Kermani's new novel ‘Das Alphabet bis S’ [The Alphabet up to S] is being hailed as a celebration of literature. It immerses us in the life of a writer whose professional highs coincide with private lows – the loss of her mother, the failure of her marriage and, last but not least, questions about identity and the meaning of existence. She tries to come to terms with these crises by reading all the unread books on her shelf – in alphabetical order, of course. Author and orientalist Navid Kermani, who was born in Siegen in 1967, will be accompanied by two of his long-time musical companions: pianist Pi-hsien Chen, who has been described as a ‘keyboard explorer between worlds’ due to the breadth of her repertoire, and percussionist, composer and performance artist Manos Tsangaris, whose work will also be performed during Wien Modern 37.
