"Dunkeln explores the boundaries between visual and auditory perception as well as between human and machine sound production. The human with its organic unpredictability meets the machine with its mechanical perfection. In the increasingly dense interplay of live music and pre-recorded sound material from the piano, the source of the sound dissolves and becomes undiscernible. More and more, a situation of acousmatic listening emerges, in which the means of sound production can no longer be precisely defined. A bedside lamp on the piano, the only source of light in the switched-off phases, strengthens this process, causing darkness in which the pianist continues to interpret from memory." (Peter Jakober)
