The artificial human – the doll, the figurine, the android – reveals three dreams of mankind: the power of creation, perfection, and immortality. Technical homunculi are still a long way away from the complexity of organic life (so far, no AI has passed the Turing test) but the goal is clear: artificial doppelgangers should not only imitate their creators, but be mentally equal, even superior to them – autonomous beings, a role model for their role models. But in the dark, a scarecrow and a little imagination are still enough to lend spirit to matter.
Christof Dienz's music for ensemble, wordless voice and Jakob Scheid's automatic drummer reflects the strangeness contained in similarity. Kristine Tornquist and the actors of the Serapions Ensemble shed light on the enigmatic relationship between people and their puppets. (sirene Operntheater)
