Call for Scores a cappella vocal quintet

ACOM – Austrian Composers Association and Wien Modern, together with maezenatentum.at/Ensemble REIHE Zykan+, and MuTh are launching a Call for Scores for an a cappella vocal quintet. We are looking for compositions for two concerts of the ensemble REIHE Zykan+ at the MuTh on the 17th/18th of November 2025, as part of Wien Modern Festival 38.
Specifically, the types of work eligible to be entered are independently composed works for five vocal parts around the topic of "Diversity of language(s) in Vienna".
The call is open to music makers of all ages who are resident in Austria or, if residing abroad, who are Austrian citizens.
Instrumentation
Soprano (bb-c3)
Alto (g-a2)
Tenor 1 (bb-c2)
Tenor 2 (a-b2)
Bass-baritone (F-g2)
Text used as a basis for the composition may be multilingual and unconventional. Simple gestural elements and the use of hand percussion are possible. Conceptual approaches, improvisational parts etc. are also possible.
The performance duration should be approx. 5-10 minutes. Work that has already been performed is not excluded from the call. In this case, the place, date and performers of all previous or planned performances of the submitted work must be named alongside the submission.

Selection and performances
A jury of experts will select up to three works from all the pieces submitted, which will be performed in two concerts at the MuTh as part of the project "Close up" on the 17th and 18th of November as part of Wien Modern by the REIHE Zykan+ ensemble under the musical direction of Michael Mautner (voice: Anna Hauf, Katharina Gebauer, Richard Klein, Gernot Heinrich, Gebhard Heegmann).
The composers of the selected works must attend rehearsals and the two performances and will receive an expense allowance of €1,000 each.
The jury's decision is final. Justification for the decisions or feedback on the compositions will not be given.
