This Masterclass offered for young string quartets at mdw in the context of Wien Modern is based on the unique knowledge of the Arditti Quartet and its expansive expertise of the string quartet repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries. There is no other ensemble in the world which has comparable experience in the field, after hundreds of premieres over 46 years of the ensemble’s history. This isn’t just concerning the playing techniques, but also approaches to new scores, efficient rehearsing and working with composers. Workshops for four quartets are on offer over two days. The three chosen new works by composition students of the mdw will be premiered at the closing concert.
