"Music with a very colourful step and mode of expression [...], free and mobile, with a sometimes completely unpredictable course," wrote South Korean composer Unsuk Chin in her Double Concerto for Piano, Percussion and Ensemble. Conlon Nancarrow's Piece No. 2 is called reminiscent of "ballet music for a puppet gone wild and cannot be grasped by the usual categories of recent music history" (Martin Lorber). The colours in György Ligeti's violin concerto are created by microintervals that alternate between combining into harmonic and non-harmonic sound spectra. A big ensemble evening all in the name of virtuoso contemporary music at the mdw.
