Program
- Christian Ofenbauer: Installation: Zerstörung des Zimmers / der Zeit (2000) - 48'
Piano, zither, contrabass guitar, two violins, a string quartet – Christian Ofenbauer has woven all the musical instruments from Ödön von Horváth's Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald (Tales from the Vienna Woods) into the sound installation that was created in 1999 as stage music for Lutz Graf's production at the Grazer Schauspielhaus. In keeping with the sombre literary gaze of the time between the First and Second World Wars, Ofenbauer creates a time- and space-consuming sound environment in his work complex Zerstörung des Zimmers / der Zeit (Destruction of the Room / of Time), named after Brecht's Fatzer materials. The radically low metaphorical temperature of this dense, subtle, quiet, sometimes almost motionless music could come straight from Helmut Lethen's book Verhaltenslehren der Kälte (Cool Conduct) – a non-just-retrospective picture of humanity on its way to the "glacier of society". Wien Modern presents the first complete performance.
