In ancient times, the organ was the spellbinding instrument of the circus and the theatre. Later, the church used its spiritual potential to its advantage. Wien Modern makes it clear that even without circus, theatre, mass, or old dusty titles like the ‘queen of the instruments’, the organ is a timeless miracle machine that can create moods, atmospheres and colours in many different ways. On the evening of the Austrian premiere of Polwechsel and Klaus Lang’s album Unseen, live in the Jesuitenkirche in Vienna, radically abstract musical minimalism is to be expected. “Discovered on a frequency meter, system Hartmann-Kempf for two electric circuits, the name goes beyond its (electro-)technical origin and refers to a wide field of associations: pole reversal, perspective shift, u-turn, upside-down, thrust reversal, position switch, new land conquest, unbending extreme, either or: Polwechsel.” (Ute Pinter)
