Cycloïd‐E. Show-Objekt

André Décosterd, Michel Décosterd (2009)

Cycloïd-E was born from the desire to create a mechanism that produces visible undulating movements, and to relate it to the development of sound waves. A pendulum. This pendulum was placed horizontally, and the effect of gravity was replaced by a motor. From then on, the segments of the pendulum became metal tubes equipped with sound sources and measuring instruments capable of making them resonate according to their rotation. What emerges is a succession of unpredictable movements. The balance of energy exchanges in the segments approaches perfection, and the trajectories are resolved surprisingly accurately and naturally. It's about harmony. Through its fascinating and hypnotic dance, Cycloïd-E traces the space of sound orbits to form a unique kinetic and polyphonic work, akin to the 'Cosmic Ballet' referenced by physicist Johannes Kepler in his 'Music of the Spheres' in 1619. (Cod.Act)
