Melting Beings

Yoko Konishi (2024)

The piece draws its inspiration from the melting ice of Antarctica. My aim was to create an immersive environment that gives the audience the sensation of being inside massive glaciers, allowing them to experience the turbulent sonic movements within. I recorded some sounds by placing piezo microphones inside the ice, capturing the noises of the melting process and using these recordings as sonic ideas. The melting ice served for me as a poignant metaphor for the fragility of existence, prompting introspection on our behaviors and interactions within the broader ecosystem. Through this piece, I sought to explore the intricate interplay between space, movement, and perception, inviting listeners to contemplate their own relationship with the sonic space. (Yoko Konishi)
