The Arditti Quartet is the only ensemble that stood on stage at every single edition of Wien Modern. Likewise, Wien Modern is the only festival at which the Arditti Quartet performs every year. So it’s hardly astonishing that the world's largest project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this legendary London string quartet will take place in Vienna in 2024. What is astonishing, however, is the programme – even for an ensemble for whom nothing is impossible: four evenings in the Mozart Hall and the Brahms Hall combine the four quartets by Arnold Schönberg with four major new commissions by Stefan Prins, Sarah Nemtsov, Chaya Czernowin and Hilda Paredes. Selected gems from collaborations with Iannis Xenakis (you have to hear Tetras live at least once in your life!), Salvatore Sciarrino, Luigi Nono and Clara Iannotta as well as an extra challenge by Peter Ablinger (an epilogue to the ‘Quardittiade’ in Donaueschingen in 2010) will also be included. One thing’s for sure: Irvine Arditti and his congenial miracle team will master all challenges with a smile …

We very much regret that the cellist of the Arditti Quartet broke his arm a few days before the start of the planned major anniversary project ARDITTI 50 (1st and 2nd November 2024 Wiener Konzerthaus, 4th and 5th November 2024 Musikverein) and wish him a speedy recovery. In consideration of the quartet's intensive preparations and rehearsals for this project, which have been ongoing for months, we have jointly decided to maintain the integrity of the programme and the quartet and not to look for short-term replacements for parts of the programme. We are working to reschedule all four concerts unchanged to 2025; the new dates will be announced as soon as possible. Festival passes and individual tickets will remain valid. We thank you very much for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to one or more of the remaining 140 events in the 37th edition of the festival.

Aufgrund einer Verletzung eines Ensemblemitglieds können die Konzerte des Arditti Quartet nicht wie geplant stattfinden. Wir arbeiten daran, sie auf 2025 zu verschieben; die neuen Daten werden so bald wie möglich angekündigt. Festivalpässe und Einzelkarten behalten ihre Gültigkeit.
